In the matter of BLM flag in US embassies worldwide

Open letter to:
The Minister, Department of Foreign Affairs, Singapore

Sir,

As you are aware, the Biden administration instructed US embassies around the world to fly the Black Lives Matter flag on May 26, to commemorate the death anniversary of George Floyd. I write belatedly to enquire of the following:

- Did the embassy indeed fly the BLM flag?
- If they did, was DFA permission sought, and if so, what was the rational for the official green light?
- If no request was made, did the DFA proactively process the situation on whether it should ever be permitted?
- If they did not fly the flag, then considering that this will be an annual affair, at least as long as the Democrats are in power, what is the position of DFA in this matter?

Sir, I write from the perspective of an understanding of Art 20 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961 which gives every nation the right to use their flags and emblems in their diplomatic mission premises, and the Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem Rules with regards to the display of our own national flag. From this premise, it is unclear whether unfurling the BLM flag is in any legislative breach. But no matter, it should be our sovereign right to place restrictions in whatever manner we deem fit.

This is not an issue of trivality but something with serious implication for the multiculturalism that we enjoy in Singapore. Let me explain.

The US is in the throes of forced social cultural restructuring and BLM is a manifestation of this unrest. However, BLM is a captured organisation that no longer pursues the dignified aspirations of the original founder. It is an organisation whose members believe in tearing down the establishment in order to rebuild. The current leadership proudly profess their Marxist credentials. It agitates violent protests and riots and makes use of all opportunities to further their cause. The unfortunate death of George Floyd being but just one such opportunity. BLM promotes not only violence but distrust for police and deep racial hatred. The coddling of BLM by the Biden administration has emboldened them. A perceived weak White House occupant encourages BLM which fans the flames of more serious fringe groups. One such group is the New Black Panther Party, who recently held an armed rally in Tulsa, Okalahoma and said "there will come a time when black Americans will kill everything white in sight".

Biden rode the BLM tiger into the White House. He has refused, or unable to, get off the tiger's back. The decision to fly BLM flags all over the world is nothing but an attempt at universal virtue signalling. BLM is associated with nothing good but violence and racial hatred. We should deny Biden his export of US exceptionalism in racial violence framed in pretensions of social justice and equity. No one should take lightly the toxicity of this movement. BLM has been exported to the UK and they are now in the same violent theatre as the US.

Multiculturalism has been sustainable in our little island. The little things that we share across the racial divide daily, we do not take for granted. We delight in the smile of the Malay auntie as she serves out the nasi lemak. We heed the instructions of the Malay policeman if he says no we can't do this. We do not hesitate to approach our Indian MP if need to. We have no problems with an ang moh Brad Bowyer representing an opposition party. But guard we must, against this American poison pill setting foot in Singapore.

Sir, it is none of our business if Biden's America chooses to hold up a black junkie to celebrate. My concern is the flag is a representation of everything Singapore stands against - violence, disrespect for law, and racial hatred. If I may extrude into the realm of conspiracies, the export of this violent ideology certainly has the markings of the globalist corporates as simply another beachhead to be exploited in some other time. It is well known George Sorros and big corporates are the financial sponsors of the BLM. Things are often not what it seems.

Bottom line is, it is not a matter of a silly flag. It is US politics, which should not leave its shores. It is partisan decision and I do believe the Biden directive is in breach of their Hatch Act.

It is in this light that I write to seek enlightenment and assurance.

Thank you.
